🏗️ Rainwater Harvesting Model for Small Residential Buildings
Duration: 1 month
Tools Used: AutoCAD, PVC piping, Water storage tank, Gravel, Sand filters
Team Size: 3
Description:
Designed and developed a working model to demonstrate the process and benefits of rainwater harvesting in small-scale residential buildings. The project aimed to provide an affordable and eco-friendly solution to water scarcity in urban and semi-urban areas.
- Calculated catchment area and potential annual water yield from rooftop surfaces.
- Designed filter chamber using a multi-layer filtration method (gravel, sand, charcoal).
- Simulated pipe layout and tank storage using AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated water reuse for gardening and flushing purposes.
- Emphasized sustainable water management and resource conservation.
Outcome:
Proved effective in capturing and storing up to 8,000 liters of water annually from a 50 sq.m. roof. Highlighted potential cost savings of ~15% in household water usage.
